JMPD is working towards Bramley Sector 2’s areas of concerns
Restaurants, guesthouses and pubs operating with unchecked documents and poor noise control remain a concern in Bramley Sector 2.
Residents left Bramley Sector 2’s Community Policing Forum (CPF) meeting on March 18 feeling hopeful after a Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) representative presented documents showing progress on longstanding by-law enforcement issues.
Key concerns included the illegal Scott Street taxi rank, hijacked buildings and unlawful construction, as well as street vendors and mechanics operating along Louis Botha Avenue.
The JMPD representative said she would escalate remaining by-law issues to her department, noting that some situations required joint operations with other stakeholders.

CPF chairperson Clinton Powys chaired the meeting, attended by Bramley SAPS acting Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Aaron Molepo, Warrant Officer Malesela Rasesemola, and CPF members Yanda Kolanisi, Ashika Young, and Chet Diepraam.
SAPS concerns
- Slow response time for Sector 2 (linked to Kew hijacking)
- Poor or no response on phone lines
- Lack of oversight on SAPS members from the CPF
Lieutenant Colonel Molepo disputed claims of slow response to the Kew hijacking, saying his team reacted quickly once alerted.
“I would also encourage members of the public to call our work phones directly, because there is a high chance of them getting through to us, unlike our station landline, which sometimes experiences problems,” he advised.

- Unsecured parks
No City Parks representative was present to respond.
- JMPD concerns
- Officers distracted by cellphone use at intersections
- Restaurants, guesthouses, and pubs operating without proper checks and poor noise control
- Fake goods and unvetted car dealerships

Powys acknowledged JMPD’s visible policing efforts, noting improvements at Scott Street intersection in the mornings and a reduction in officers idling in vehicles.
The next CPF meeting will be held on April 15 at Bramley SAPS at 18:00.
