Jan Smuts and Rothesay avenue excavation repairs expected to commence on April 13

JRA cannot give a completion date for the Jan Smuts and Rothesay avenue excavation yet.

The repairs for the longstanding, dangerous excavation at the corner of Jan Smuts and Rothesay avenues will finally commence on April 13, according to the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA)’s head of operations, who confirmed on April 8.

The excavation, which has been making news since December last year, is a result of Johannesburg Water’s efforts to locate a leak, which was repaired last month.

JRA head of regional operations, Khaya Gqibitole, explained, “The repairs will be inclusive of site preparation, stormwater repairs, sidewalks, and reinstatement of the excavated road.

The completion timeline is yet to be determined and is dependent on whether or not JRA will need to relocate any services, which include cables.”

Gqibitole added that JRA would be better positioned to communicate an estimated time of repairs in the coming week.
