St Teresa’s School celebrated the joy of reading during Rosie Book Week
The Rosie Book Week aims to foster a passion for reading and storytelling throughout the school's community.
The joy of reading took centre stage at St Teresa’s Junior and Senior Primary School as learners, families, and staff came together to celebrate Rosie Book Week from May 25–29.
It was a week dedicated to fostering a passion for reading and storytelling throughout the school’s community.
The week began with the much-anticipated Hooked on Books performances, which captivated learners with lively theatrical presentations that brought stories and characters to life.

Lianda May, admissions, marketing, and media centre representative, said, “Adding to the excitement, we were delighted to welcome author Roslynne Toerien. Roslynne shared insights into her writing journey, spoke about the inspiration behind her stories and encouraged learners to embrace their own creativity.”
May added that the author’s engaging presentations provided a wonderful opportunity for Rosies to connect with a real-life author and gain a deeper appreciation for the power of storytelling.
This was followed by book character dress-up day, when the school was transformed into living storybooks as learners and staff arrived dressed as a wide variety of beloved literary characters.
From classic storybook heroes to contemporary favourites, the creativity, imagination and attention to detail reflected the excitement and inspiration that books bring.

May noted that the school’s pre-loved book sale was another wonderful success.
“Families generously donated books, allowing students to discover new stories while promoting sustainability and the joy of sharing books with others. The sale helped place more books into eager young hands and encouraged reading beyond the classroom.
Another special event was the school’s Family Reading Picnic, where families gathered on the school lawns and in cosy reading spaces across the school to enjoy quality time together, reading and sharing stories in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
The morning celebrated the important role families play in nurturing lifelong readers and created treasured memories for all.

“Rosie Book Week is always a highlight on our school calendar. Reading opens doors to imagination, knowledge and lifelong learning.
It was wonderful to see our Rosies so engaged and excited about books, and to witness the incredible support from our families throughout the week,” said St Teresa’s Junior Primary principal, Lynne Elfick.
