Parktown Boys’ High School refurbishes classrooms for the future of its learners
A R1.5m campaign is upgrading classrooms at the school as part of its vision to modernise learning spaces for current learners and future generations.
Parktown Boys’ High School has started the transformation of its classrooms into a modern learning environment through a large-scale refurbishment project.
Supported by the Parktonian Foundation Trust, the project has been funded by the school’s old boy network, with over R1.5m raised through a match funding campaign.
According to the foundation’s CEO, Joe Kotwal, 15 classrooms are already done, with 10 more expected to be completed over the next three months.

The school has about 40 classrooms, including computer labs, which also form part of the refurbishment goal which the school hopes to complete soon.
The refurbishment of each classroom costs about R70 000, and includes upgrades such as new teacher laptops, projectors, whiteboards, restored wooden floors, fresh paint, and the replacement of old tube lights with LED lighting.
Kotwal added that the project was aimed at creating classrooms that foster conducive learning. “Some of the desks that we have managed to refurbish are ones that I actually learned on myself.”
Each completed classroom has a plaque just outside which honours those who contributed towards the upgrade.

Kevin Stippel, Parktown Boys’ High School headmaster, stated that the upgrade formed part of the school’s 2027 vision, in which its main focus is to modernise the school environment.
“I’m very excited on the back end of the support of the Parktonian Foundation Trust to the school, that have given us this unique opportunity now to really invest on the educational side, in terms of upgrading the classrooms.”
He added that they have received positive reactions from the learners towards the changes, noting that the refurbishments have created a sense of pride among the learners.
Stippel expressed his gratitude to the Parktonian Foundation Trust for their contribution towards improving the school environment for current and future generations of learners.
“This project is an example of how the past, in terms of past students of the school, can really make a positive impact for the present and future generations of boys.”
