Due to postponements at CPF House, Bramley Community Policing Forum (CPF) Sector 2 held its July meeting on August 4.

Cheering the meeting was chairperson Clinton Powys, and those in attendance included Bramley CPF ex co-chairperson Gerard Oaker, secretary Ashika Young, and Warrant Officer Rassie Rasesemola, while other CPF members and the public joined the meeting online.

Rasesemola presented the SAPS crime trends report which highlighted robbery with a fire arm and trio crimes being a concern. Rape cases were another trend, often involving known parties or domestic violence.

Contributing factors to the crime rates include poor street lighting, large trees, abandoned houses, drugs, and alcohol.

Rasesemola noted that Bramley SAPS has implemented the following police interventions to combat crime:

• Weekly visibility patrols by Vispol commanders,
• Detective operations,
• District Operation Shanela,
• Provincial Operation Shanela, and
• Increased visibility in hotspot areas.

Community concerns that were brought up during the meeting included by-law infringements, non-working traffic lights, and neglected properties.

Bramley Sector 2 listed action items it wishes to complete before the next meeting, including liquor outlets, restaurants, clubs, and carwashes on Louis Botha Avenue, public drinking, gambling, and a resultant urination spree on roads, street mechanics operating illegally in Savoy, and scrapyards operating illegally.

The next meeting is scheduled for August 19 at CPF House at Bramley SAPS.
