Bramley police prioritise safety during Operation Basadi
Bramley SAPS’ Operation Basadi stop-and-search led to one arrest, people and vehicle searches and business visits.
A drunk driving arrest was among the outcomes of Bramley police’s Operation Basadi on August 28, which extended beyond a standard roadblock.
The crime prevention initiative included searches of people and vehicles, business inspections, and ATM scam-related checks to boost police visibility and engage the community.
While officers searched 86 people and 59 vehicles, visited 12 businesses and seven spaza shops, and checked 10 ATMs, one driver was taken into custody.
Captain Bridget Kgomotso Dladla said, “We want to make sure that when we work on Operation Basadi, our drivers on the roads, the people who are walking on our roads, they are safe, and that we guard our community.”
During the stop-and-search, officers focused on drugs, illegal items, firearms, and weapons, while also testing motorists for drunk driving. Dladla added that the operation succeeded due to strong motorist cooperation.
The initiative also included a community awareness campaign, with officers distributing 150 educational pamphlets.
Bramley police Warrant Officer Matseke Nchabeleng said the materials aimed to help residents understand local issues, including domestic violence, the Men For Change initiative, and criminal procedure.

Nchabeleng added that the operation provided an opportunity to highlight the role of women in policing.
“It’s good to see the women in authority because any woman can be able to be in authority, regardless of colour, age, race, culture,” she said. She noted that Operation Basadi proved women could execute the same responsibilities as their male colleagues.
“We show that it’s not only a man who can do the operation. Even a woman can also do that with them,” she said.
The operation forms part of the SAPS crime prevention programme, ensuring that crime is combated and communities are kept safe.
