Private security officer injured and suspect killed in Sandringham

A male member of the public was shot dead and CAP officers were seriously injured during an incident at a complex on Edward Avenue, Sandringham, early on September 15.

A man has died and two security personnel have been seriously injured following a violent incident at an Edward Avenue residential complex in Sandringham on September 15.

Community Active Protection (CAP) members responded to reports of a man armed with dangerous weapons who was damaging property and threatening residents.

The intruder had already assaulted and injured static guards on site before the arrival of a tactical armed reaction unit.

When responding officers arrived, the man attempted to attack their vehicle before fleeing. Tactical team members pursued him to make an arrest, but he turned and violently attacked one officer, inflicting serious injuries.

Aiming to protect their colleague and nearby residents, officers discharged their licensed firearms as a last resort, according to CAP. The assailant was declared dead at the scene.

The injured tactical officer and static guard were transported to hospital for medical treatment.
SAPS attended the scene and have launched an investigation into the incident.
