St Katharine’s Preparatory and Salvazione Christian School bring The Lion King to the stage
Young performers from two local schools showcased their talent during a joint cultural production.
St Katharine’s Preparatory amphitheatre came alive on September 18 when learners presented a joint production of The Lion King alongside pupils from Salvazione Christian School.

Elephant trumpets, lion roars and hyena laughs dominated the stage, entertaining guests.
Chantelle van Niekerk, from St Katharine’s Preparatory, said the play was initiated by the parent-teacher association. “We have had a relationship with Salvazione Christian School for years and have collaborated on many other aspects, but never culturally, which is the children’s strong suit,” said Van Niekerk. “When this was put on the table, I could not say no.”
Zintle Mgabhi, from Salvazione Christian School, said preparations for the play were seamless. “The pupils caught on quickly in terms of learning the script, choreography and singing.”

Bontle Lovett, from Salvazione Christian School, said the collaboration showed that schools are stronger together. “All parties were inspired by one another, and friendships were formed in the process among learners and staff. It was a beautiful project that came to fruition.”
