Rea Vaya does a disservice to pedestrians

ORANGE GROVE - Freda Neimann writes with reference to Ken Scriven's letter, Clarify corridors of congestion:

I would like to point out that putting fencing all along the middle of Louis Botha Avenue is a violation of the personal rights of pedestrians.

What happens if you do use public transport and need to cross the road to get to your place of work, which is on the other side of the fence? By the way, that will mean using taxis because there are no bus stops planned from King Edward School to the next station which only seems to be much further down Louis Botha Avenue.

You would be compelled to walk up to a kilometre or more before you could find a gap in the fence to be able to cross over. And then have to retrace your steps an equivalent distance to get back to the street you originally wanted to be in.

The Rea Vaya should serve motorists and pedestrians who do an honest day’s work to support themselves and their families, and who contribute to the economy.

Stop wasting money on unnecessary things such as fences and spend money on making Rea Vaya a real Corridor of Freedom for all citizens. Spend money on making it work.
