How eminently sensible are the letters (Talk Time, page 6, week ending 11 December) of I de Villiers and Phil Mashabane. Their suggestions of fencing the Zoo Lake park and of charging an entrance fee really could solve the problems there.
If, as has been previously reported, parking is to be improved, then all the more reason to charge for parking and entrance.
Save Zoo Lake for the city, not the vagrants.
Previously named Herman Eckstein Park, it was donated in 1894 after its namesake, Eckstein’s death, by his company, Central Mining and Investment, to the City of Johannesburg. That documentation (Deed of Gift) would, of course, need to be re-examined to ensure none of its points would be violated.
