Joburg crowds bowled over at the Momentum Cricket Sixes
HOUGHTON – CRICKET stars, hundreds of spectators and corporates gathered for a day of cricketing action and fun at the second annual Momentum Cricket Sixes at Old Eds in Houghton.
The charity-driven cricket tournament, founded by former Proteas Graeme Smith, Justin Kemp and Mark Boucher, saw festivities kick off on the Friday with a golf day at Royal Johannesburg, which was followed by a dinner and auction.
Legends included cricket greats such as Kevin Pietersen, Jonty Rhodes, Pat Symcox, Damien Martyn and Jacques Kallis.
Corporate teams then went head-to-head on the cricket field on Saturday, while spectators enjoyed the fun in the Momentum Family Area, Style Lounge and in the VIP area with cricket legends and Jozi’s A-list celebs such as Jeannie D, Clive Eksteen, Zuraida Jardine, Kerry McGregor and Emmanuelle Castis.

After an action-packed day of cricket, the Momentum Cricket Sixes winning title was taken by corporate team Five Lincoln, which was led by retired international cricket star David Terbrugge, and included cricket legend and ex-SA bowler Paul Harris.
“We would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts who took part in the Cricket Sixes,” said former Proteas captain and tournament co-founder, Smith.
“From the cricket legends who travelled far and wide to join us, the sponsors who saw our vision and backed us every bit of the way, to the spectators who joined us on the day, we could not have asked for a more memorable event. We are proud with the second instalment of the sixes tournament, and look forward to taking the event from strength to strength in upcoming years,” he said.
Charities to benefit from proceeds include the Momentum to Excellence Bursary Programme, The Castle Lager Boucher Legacy and the Jacques Kallis Foundation.
