Goju Kai Karate Academy succeeds championships
LINKSFIELD - GOJU KAI Karate Academy in Linksfield won 22 medals at the Karate South Africa All-Styles National Championships held in Johannesburg on 6 and 7 March.
The dojo brought home 12 gold, two silver and eight bronze medals from the competition. Nine members won their divisions, ranking them as number one in the country for all-styles karate.
Jesse Sim, Khardan Ruocchio, Justin Baynes, Gia van der Merwe, Kiara Moon, Maryam Suleman, Kaylee Naidoo, Kyra King and Kayla Cardoso will represent South African All-Styles Karate at the upcoming Zone 6 Southern African Championships to be held in Durban in May, where they will compete against the likes of Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Angola, Zambia, DRC, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Swaziland and Tanzania.
Six members of the dojo have qualified to represent South Africa at the WKF Cadet and Junior World Karate Championships to be held in Indonesia in November and all will receive their Protea colours again.
