WATCH: Krav maga (self-defense) taught in Sandringham
SANDRINGHAM - THERE'S a powerful self-defence system being taught in Sandringham.
Led by Anthony Segal, an expert in Israeli Krav International (Iki) krav maga, these self-defence classes are said to be supremely effective and it is a constantly evolving Israeli self-defence system which is known for its simplicity, ease of learning and devastating power.
Iki krav maga is used worldwide by men and women from all walks of life. It is different from other martial arts in that it is not classified as a sport – it is a pure self-defence system.
Segal said, “The benefits of a person participating in Iki krav maga is that it gives them a sense of safety and confidence… in order to cope in real-life situations.
“It’s a wonderful way to get teens out of the house and teach them discipline, as well as keeping them active. We have linked with Discovery Medical Aid to give members Vitality points for the classes.

“All members of the community are welcome, regardless of age or gender. We offer our first lesson to members of the public free of charge. Join us and you will gain fitness while learning to protect yourself.”
The ultimate goal of Iki krav maga is your survival against threats or attacks. The system encompasses safe behaviour, awareness training, simple strategy and, of course, physical self-defence.
Segal’s krav maga system is designed to enable a smaller defender to successfully neutralise a threat or attack from a larger attacker, and is suited to anyone wanting to learn how to defend themselves.
He said Iki krav maga is easily learned, easily remembered, easily applied and extremely effective.
Krav maga is taught at the Jabula Recreation Centre in Sandringham.
