Triumph over adversity
LOMBARDY EAST - Samkelo Radebe a South African Paralympian gold medalist has been lauded for her participation in lawn bowls by the Lombardy East Bowling Club.
South African Paralympian gold medalist, Samkelo Radebe, has been lauded for his participation in the Home Bid Spectacular Circle lawn bowls event held at Lombardy East Bowling Club.
Radebe is a sprint runner and high jumper who competes in the T45 class. He lost both arms at the age of nine when he was electrocuted after his kite became entangled in electrical wires.
South African organisation Children of Fire assisted with Radebe’s rehabilitation.
He began running in high school in 2003 and is now a law graduate at the University of Johannesburg.
Desiree Levin of the bowling club was full of praise for Radebe and described him as an inspiration to many young South Africans.
“The Home Bid Spectacular Circle of Talent Trips event was extremely colourful with the appearance of Samkelo… who accepted the invitation and the challenge to play lawn bowls,” she said.
