JOBURG - FNB UJ completed their third victory of the new season to remain unbeaten in the Varsity Cup when, they defeated a defiant FNC CUT side 14-0 at the UJN Stadium on 22 February.
FNB UJ achieved their third victory of the new season to remain unbeaten in the Varsity Cup when they defeated a defiant FNB CUT side 14-0 at the UJ Stadium.
The game started off slowly with both teams settling in, and by the 20th minute, neither side had put points on the board. But the visitors showed some great character and skill towards the end of the first stanza as they looked to put the home side under pressure.

However, FNB UJ were the first to break the deadlock when they used a strong rolling maul from a lineout which had the visitor’s defence in trouble, resulting in Emmanuel Morowane going over in the 31st minute – and Divan Nel made no mistake with the conversion.
Much to the delight of the crowd, soon after, the home side doubled their lead in the 34th minute when Peter John crossed the line after some great play from the back line.
The visitors went into the break trailing 14-0 but showed more intent in the second half as they put the home side’s defence under immense pressure. But FNB UJ’s defence stood strong and held on to their third victory.
Their next game is on 29 February at the UJ Stadium against FNB Maties at 6.30pm.
