A plethora of avid kayakers took to Thrombosis Falls on the Umzimkulu River in KwaZulu-Natal, including Norwood resident and keen whitewater enthusiast Dr Luke Longridge.
One of Longridge’s passions is to organise the annual Thrombi X-Fest kayak race.
Spokesperson for the Gauteng Canoeing Union, Jennie Dallas said, “The Thrombi X-Fest hosts a dedicated crowd of whitewater enthusiasts every year, who battle it out in head-to-head sprints down class 4 rapids. Competitors have to win through a number of rounds of heats, semifinals and finals for the honour of being the Thrombi champion.”
This year, the event was won by Parys whitewater kayaker, Philip Claasen.
