Vodacom Super Rugby heats up with fiery round five matches
JOBURG – South African teams fair relatively well in round five of Vodacom Super Rugby matches.
Round five of Super Rugby saw exciting Lions winger, Madosh Tambwe, score a double delight of debut tries in a comprehensive 42–9 victory over the Southern Kings in their encounter in Port Elizabeth.
Other South African teams to taste victory over the past weekend were the Stormers and the Sharks. The Stormers staged a powerful second half comeback to overcome the Sunwolves 44–31 in their Singapore match, while the Sharks won the local derby against the Cheetahs 38–30 in Bloemfontein.
Sharks flyhalf, Curwin Bosch, put in a noteworthy performance to earn himself the Player of the Match award. Bosch was on target with his place kicking as he slotted three conversions and four penalties for a personal tally of 18 points.
In the weekend’s last match, Jaguares winger Ramiro Moyano scored a superb solo try as the Argentinean outfit consolidated 2nd position on the Africa Conference 2 table after defeating the Reds 22–8 in Buenos Aires.
The Lions, along with the Jaguares and Sharks have won four of their five matches and occupy 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions with 19, 18 and 17 points respectively.
The Bulls’ woes continued after they suffered yet another disappointing loss – their third in four games – succumbing to a 38–14 hammering from the Blues in Albany, Auckland. The Pretoria-based outfit currently sits in 3rd position on the Africa Conference 1 log with a paltry five points to their credit. The Bulls next face a tough assignment away to the Chiefs in Waikato on 1 April.
