Jacoba Academy Football Club senior team scores 11 in 40 minutes
HIGHLANDS NORTH – The referee calls off football match, citing mercy rules of the RCLFA.
The referee was forced to call off a soccer match between Jacoba Academy Football Club senior team and Summerhill FC because Summerhill was being hammered 11–0 inside the first 40 minutes.
The encounter, which was played at Highlands North Boys’ School, saw an avalanche of goals in the first stanza of the match. Jacoba showed nothing but character, commitment and great football skills on the pitch earning themselves three points in the Rand Central Local Football Association (RCLFA) league match.
The academy’s manager, Dimitri Athanasopoulos said he was proud of how his boys conducted themselves on the day.
This was their first home game at the venue and Athanasopoulos said the entire staff of the academy came out in full support.
He said the first minutes of the encounter were a little bit slow with his players still trying to find their feet. “Things started to improve after about 10 to 15 minutes when we launched our attack and simultaneously scored a goal,” he added.
“We then improved with every touch on the ball starving the opposition of possession and creating scoring opportunities on the left, right and centre channels.”
The referee called off the game citing mercy rules of the RCLFA.
