Parkview hosts a thrilling PinkStig

Only one shot was in it when Parkview Golf Club had finished hosting the highly acclaimed international women’s golfing event, The Sun PinkStig Series.

But Serengeti Golf Club member, Nicole Garcia (26) shot an excellent three-under 141 on 17 and 18 October, when conditions after heavy rains in Joburg made golfing tough.

“The grass was inconsistent, so some greens were different from others,” she said afterwards. “My game plan was just to take it shot for shot.”

This was key for Garcia after Swaziland’s Nobuhle Dlamini surged ahead early on in the series, and appeared unbeatable. But determination and grit on the part of Garcia paid off as she edged Dlamini by one shot in the end.

Parkview’s own, Melissa Eaton finished third with a two-over par 146.

The tournament’s amateur champion, Woo Ju Son said while the greens were difficult to play on, the courses were great.

“My driving game was good and gave me confidence,” she said when asked what gave her the edge.

“My putting was not great at the start but it later improved.”

Parkview president, Colin Robinson said it was good for the sport to see so many young women playing golf professionally.

“These days golf requires so much time and competes with so many other things in our lives,” he explained.

Robinson added that the selection of Parkview as the venue for the event proved that the club’s courses are of top standard.
