NORWOOD – Andre's Taekwondo Academy celebrated a successful 2018 through a special prize-giving.

 

The Norwood-based Andre’s Taekwondo Academy ended 2018 by celebrating their achievements at their annual prize-giving and are looking forward to a successful new year.

Owner and chief instructor at the academy, Andre van Tonder said, “In 2019 we are going to have to work very hard to meet the high standards of 2018. We celebrated our school’s second birthday, we travelled to America to compete in world championships, we competed locally in our annual national champs, we grew as a team and became closer together than ever.”

The Norwood based school hosted their prize-giving to commend the hard work their students did throughout the year. Van Tonder added, “We are so proud of all our students, they work incredibly hard but reap the rewards. With our never-changing attitude and discipline we are excited to see what this year holds for us and our students.”

Some of the winners included:

Student of the year saw first place go to Esti Blumberg, second place to Joshua Khan and third went to Mira Cohn.

National Colours were awarded to Eden Leibowitz, Da’el Basserabie, Andre van Tonder and Jason du Toit.

Andre van Tonder and the academy’s presidential colour recipients Darren Gomer, Aden Cohen-Louw, Aron Cohen, Gabriel Diamond, Mira Cohn and Marissa Katz.

Presidential Colours were awarded to Darren Gomer, Aron Cohen, Mira Cohn, Aden Cohen-Louw, Gabriel Diamond and Marissa Katz.

SAKMA (South African Korean Martial Arts) Colours were awarded to Andre van Tonder and Joshua Khan.

National Championship awards were handed to Andre van Tonder, Mira Cohn, Aron Cohen and Aden Cohen-Louw.

Instructor of the year winner Marissa Katz and Andre van Tonder.

Most improved Colour Tiger saw Joshua Cohen in first place, second place went to Yehuda Yomtov and Lutfiyya Loot bagged third.

Most Excelled in Extreme Martial Arts was awarded to Aron Cohen in first place, Da’el Basserabie in second place and Joshua Kahn in third place.

Instructor of the year was awarded to Marissa Katz.

Best colour belt Tournament Overall performance was awarded to Aden Cohen-Louw.

Best Black Belt Tournament Overall performance was awarded to Joshua Kahn.

Black Belt Attitude for Colour Belts was awarded to Esti Blumberg in first place, Shalya Adler in second and Avidan Basserabie came in third.

Black Belt Attitude for Black Belts saw Joshua Kahn in first place, Faiyaz Khan in second and third place went to Darren Gomer.
