Old Edwardians Cricket Club is tops

This in addition to finishing second in the T20 Black Widow Tournament, Presidents A League and Saturday 1 League.

It was awards galore, including the best possible, for Old Edwardians Cricket Club at the Central Gauteng Lions annual awards. The event happened in an online video for the first time, but the awards were no less special for those receiving them.

Old Eds has won the Premier League 10 times since 2008 including a back-to-back win this year and were rewarded with the men’s club of the year award. The cricket club’s Mitch van Buuren was awarded batter of the year in the provincial players’ category, Scott Conway was the bowler of the year in the club division and Bryce Parsons (the South African U19 captain and captain for the U19 Cricket World Cup) was the U19 player of the year and commended for his national selection.

Heinreich Pieterse was commended for his SA U19 selection and Reuben du Toit was the U15 player of the year.

As well as winning the Premier League, Old Eds won the Presidents B League and Saturday 2 League this season. This in addition to finishing second in the T20 Black Widow Tournament, Presidents A League and Saturday 1 League.”We have a good culture among all out teams, and you can see we are in a positive space by our results,” said Old Eds Premier League team captain, Wesley Landsdale.

“We have recruited a lot of good players and we have great depth in the squads. It is not always about being the best but having a strong presence in the Premier League, which we do.”Team coach, Brandon Buckley agreed that strength in depth has helped the club get to where it is, and club chairperson Mark Patterson should be commended in his work behind the scenes in team selection, management, administration and maintenance of the grounds.

“Each season we grow stronger and I want to thank everyone from the players to the staff, it makes my job as coach easy when everyone is putting in the work like this,” Buckley said.

Landsdale added the club reached ‘blue chip’ status with Cricket South Africa in terms of its transformation level, which roughly only 20 clubs reach each year.”Next season will be our 100th season and we look forward to even more success,” he concluded
