Rocky Road Runners looks forward to hosting the Rockies Gerald Fox Memorial Race virtually for the first time.
The annual Vitality Run Series event normally sees more than 6 000 runners make their way around and through Johannesburg Zoo.
But the animals will miss out on the attraction come 13 September, as runners will run wherever and whenever they like on the day from 7am.
“The run will be free of charge and anyone can complete 5km, 10km or 21km for 300 Vitality points,” Rocky Road Runners [also called Rockies] chairperson, Matodzi Tshidzumba said.
He said only participants with Vitality linked fitness devices will be able to claim or be awarded points.
“We will send participants race numbers which they can wear on the day. The event is sponsored by Vitality, G. Fox and BRM Meat and instead of paying registration fees we encourage people to donate to our supported causes – Johannesburg Zoo and Parktown Girls High School.”
Entries can be completed online at www.timeme.co.za but are limited to 20 000 people across all distances.
“All members of the public are invited to participate and they can run in their neighbourhoods on the day,” Tshidzumba added.
“This is to keep members of the public active during these difficult times.”
The club is also hosting 5km virtual time trials every week.
