Join the 947 Ride Joburg Cyclethon this year

Covid-19 might have disrupted the world but it will not stop Joburg's biggest road race from happening this year.

On 15 November, Smile Foundation in collaboration with 947 Ride Joburg and Imperial Wanderers Stadium, will host a Smile Foundation 947 Ride Joburg Cyclethon.

People can participate in the cyclethon as part of a large class at Imperial Wanderers stadium (limited to 500 participants) or from the comfort of their own home (unlimited) while watching a world-class stream.

A cycling instructor will lead and motivate the cyclethon riders for four hours throughout their virtual 94km 947 Ride Joburg race. All riders will be linked virtually to the same race and will complete their 94km in their own time. Every rider will need to use the official app, Motosumo, to track and measure their 94km ride to receive an official 2020 finish and medal.

Participants who choose to attend the cyclethon at Imperial Wanderers will also receive a medal and goody bag and refreshment stations will be available to the 500 entrants.

With Covid-19 compliance regulations strictly in place, bookings are essential on the website. “The people of Joburg are so generous with their support of this meaningful event, which has really become a firm favourite with families year in and year out.
“Not only is it a great way to celebrate the end of a disruptive year, but it helps generate funds that make a genuine, tangible difference in children’s lives, and I couldn’t think of anything that could be more rewarding than that,” said Fritz Pienaar, new owner and race organiser of 947 Ride Joburg.
