Pirates cricket pitch their goals
GREENSIDE – Pirates Cricket Club amps up its training ahead of the shortened season.
Pirates Cricket Club has been training hard ahead of the upcoming shortened season in hopes of a good return in Joburg’s top leagues.
Club captain, Matt Hardy said from before the festive season and on into January, the senior players have been meeting for training.
“We are very fortunate and just grateful to be playing and are thoroughly looking forward to making the most of the shortened season ahead,” he said.
“Our practices are currently on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4.30pm until dark with official league games commencing from the first weekend in February. Pirates senior coach, Kerran St Clair conducts practices of a high standard and we are expecting further improvement in skills from our squad as a whole.”
Training follows the ideals of process, performance and outcome. This means players must trust the process and work hard to create a culture where the team is always giving its best performance, resulting in a positive outcome for Pirates as a whole.

“We’ll be hoping for all our teams to be competing at the top of their respective leagues with emphasis on growth and improvement through the season.”
The club competes in three Saturday and three Sunday leagues, including Premier B and President’s B.
The cricket club’s junior section (U7s to U15s) has yet to start its season, and practices will commence from 22 January – split between Friday nights and Saturday mornings.
“We are very excited by the introduction of the new U15 group, which allows our young and promising talent to slowly integrate into the senior setup,” Hardy added.

“Both Pirates senior and junior cricket have strict adherence to Covid protocols, with the safety of our members and all extended Pirates family being of our outmost concern.”
Hardy said anyone interested in finding out more about the cricket section at Pirates could visit the website or contact them directly.
