A celebration of Irish heritage and culture was done the South African way
KILLARNEY – The South African Irish Regimental Association celebrated Saint Patrick’s Day through golf.
The Killarney Country Club hosted the South African Irish Regimental Association for the Saint Patrick’s Golf Day celebrations.
The event, which commemorates Saint Patrick and celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish in South Africa in general, took place on March 11.
Organiser of the golf day for the South African Irish Regimental Association, Tania Herwill said, “For us, we as the SA Irish Pipes and Drums and the SA Irish Regimental Association and the celebrators of the Irish culture as South Africans – having a diverse culture of players and guests visiting us – we pride ourselves with merging and celebrating all cultures.”

Killarney Country Club (KCC) marketing and events manager, Amber-Rose Dineen said the association chose to partner with the club to host the golf day on their premises, which the club was ‘more than honoured’ to accept.
She added that they hosted a Golf Day Better Ball Stableford competition followed by an Irish-themed prize-giving dinner and performance by the South African Irish Pipes and Drums.
“We had an amazing turnout for the day and our members and guests showed great support for this function. We look forward to having similar events on a much larger scale in the future.
“KCC would like to acknowledge and thank the South African Irish Regimental Association and South African Irish Pipes and Drums for hosting this event at KCC and for the superb performance,” Dineen concluded.
