Preparation for the Gauteng provincial karate trials is officially underway
Karatekas from across Johannesburg met at the Wanderers Club, taking part in intense training and stretching to prepare for the Gauteng provincial trials, an important step to earning selection for the National SAJKA Championships.
Intense training and stretching techniques were underway at the South African branch of the Japan Karate Association (SAJKA) headquarters at the Wanderers Club on February 4.
Dojo members are training in preparation for the Gauteng provincial trials, scheduled to take place in March at the Standard Bank Arena.
Sensei Johan La Grange explained: “These trials represent an important step in the competitive pathway, with successful athletes earning selection to compete at the National SAJKA Championships in May.”

The sensei added that the National SAJKA Championships will also serve as the official selection event for the SAJKA national team, which will represent South Africa at the Indo-Pacific Championship in Mauritius in September.
The international competition provides South African athletes with the opportunity to compete against top-level competitors from around the world.
Organisers anticipate participation from approximately 1 800 novice belt athletes and 1 500 elite belt athletes across the trials and championships, reflecting the continued growth and popularity of karate in South Africa.
