Gauteng’s finest squash players battled it out on the Wanderers Club’s courts
Johannesburg's Closed Squash Tournament was a mixed gender tournament, where ladies played against gentlemen.
Gauteng squash masters showcased their talent at the Wanderers Club from April 17–18 during the Johannesburg Closed Squash Tournament.
Chairman of the Joburg Masters, Dino Petrarolo, explained that the event was a closed tournament because it featured only master players from within the province.
He added that the masters are aged 35 and older, competing in different sections based on playing strength: A, B, and C.
“The event is played over two days. Tonight each person plays two matches, and tomorrow we’ll play three matches.
Everybody plays the same number of games, but depending on where you finish, you’ll be ranked in terms of either winning the A, B, or C section,” said Petrarolo.

He noted that the tournament was always a fun occasion, with participants and spectators enjoying the atmosphere and camaraderie.
Petrarolo also highlighted that it was a mixed-gender competition, with women competing against men.

“It’s a bit tough for the ladies because they’re having to play against men, but good ladies are playing as well, which makes the competition more interesting.”
Day two of the tournament on April 18 saw each master play three matches, with winners determined across the sections.
