Squash masters show off their skill at the Johannesburg Closed Squash Tournament

Squash mastery took centre stage, as Johannesburg’s finest squash masters clashed in a spirited opening night at the Wanderers Club for the Johannesburg Closed Squash Tournament.

Precision, agility, and speed dominated the first evening of the Johannesburg Closed Squash Tournament at the Wanderers Club on April 17.

Chairperson of the Joburg Masters Dino Petrarolo explained that the tournament was closed, made up of master players who play within the province.

He added that these masters were 35 years of age or older and played in different sections based on strength, which were made up of A, B, and C sections. “The event is played over two days. Tonight, each person plays two matches. Tomorrow, we’ll play three matches. Everybody will play the same number of games, but depending on where you finish, you’ll be ranked in terms of either winning the A, B, or C section.”

Petrarolo noted that it was always a fun event. People enjoyed participating and watching it, and there was great camaraderie. He added that it was a mixed-gender tournament where ladies played against gentlemen. “It’s a bit tough for the ladies, because they’re having to play against men, but good ladies are playing as well, which makes the competition more interesting.”

Today will see day two of the Johannesburg Closed Squash Tournament. Masters will play three games each, and the winner will be determined.
