Norwood residents joined Shoneez Ganie as she hosted Padel for A Cause, to fight against childhood diseases.

AV Malformation Warrior founder Shoneez Ganie hosted Padel for A Cause at Norwood Rooftop on May 31, in an effort to raise funds and dedicated to childhood illnesses.

Inspired by her 17-year-old son, who is autistic and has a heart condition, Ganie said Padel for A Cause aimed to create awareness about rare diseases.

“There isn’t much knowledge about rare diseases in South Africa, so having these campaigns in a colourful way and celebrating our children is what we strive to do.”

She added that the funds raised go towards the foundation preparing hampers for children in the community, hosting local food drives, and the day-to-day running of the foundation.

An attendee, Keely Goodall, said she wanted to be able to show up for Ganie in the same way she continuously shows up for her son.

“I’m representing her son’s foundation, AV Malformation, and I want to show her that she has a village that will show up for her.

She doesn’t have to fight alone. I’m really excited to be a part of this, and to be able to support such an important cause.”
