Wanderers men’s B team triumphs over CBC Boksburg in Illovo showdown

Wanderers Hockey Club men’s B team battled through penalty cards, noisy sidelines, and relentless opposition to secure a 5–3 win over CBC Boksburg in Illovo – a result that keeps their top four season hopes alive.

The men’s B team from the Wanderers Hockey Club secured a 5–3 victory in an intense game against the B team from CBC Boksburg Hockey Club on July 12 in Illovo.

Both B teams started off strongly, despite penalty cards being given and spectators being warned to allow the umpires to impartially enforce the rules of the game.

Wanderers coach Bokang Raselomane commended the team for the fight they put up. “It was a tough game. I think we managed to keep our head in the game, despite the noise that came from the opposition. I am happy with how the team played. We scored good field goals which puts us in a good position to finish top three or four this season.”

Raselomane added that the team would be taking a one-week break, and will return to five or six games for the season, which he hoped they’d do well in.

CBC Boksburg captain Bradley Nunn noted that although the score was not in their favour, he thought the team played well. “I think we had a lot of opportunities. We could have scored more goals and created a more opportunities. We didn’t follow through, that’s why the score was 5–3.”

Nunn added that he thought the team could have done better during the quarters. “I think if we work on our consistency, and arrive earlier to warm up better, we could deliver a better game.”
