Western Warriors get off to good start in 50-over match at Wanderers Club

Supporters and families gathered to cheer on their teams as Western Warriors took an early lead in their 50-over encounter.

Western Warriors and Wanderers Cricket Club were off to a strong start in their 50-over match at Wanderers Club on October 18.

Supporters and families sat on the side of the field to encourage their respective teams as cheers erupted for the Western Warriors batters, who dominated the first half before the break.

Western Warriors vice-captain Riedaah Pateo said the team was pleased with its opening performance and looked forward to the rest of the day. “The game is going positively although we lost our first wicket,” Pateo said. “We’re also enjoying the good facility we’re playing at and there are runs on the table. We’re taking it one ball at a time.”

Wanderers Cricket Club coach Matt Parr commended the Western Warriors’ batting. “We had a good start,” Parr said. “Western Warriors have been batting well and have come back into the game. Hopefully, in the next session, we can pull it back a little bit.”

Parr added that this was the team’s second game of the season and the players were slowly settling into their stride. “We had a tough loss last week against Wits, which was made worse by the rain,” Parr said.

The final scores of the match will be available in the afternoon when the match is over.
