Wam’s upcoming talkabouts
BRAAMFONTEIN - Wits Art Museum, one of the few Joburg art spaces open on Sundays, offers a fantastic weekly opportunity to explore its permanent collections.
Presented by knowledgeable, passionate volunteer guides, the talkabouts explore different artworks, including classical and contemporary, sculpture, textiles, prints and painting.
“The Sunday talkabouts are specially designed, based on the [guides’] personal interests,” said the museum’s Paola Chellew.
“So each visit will offer a unique experience.”
Chellew said the talkabouts were free, but donations to the museum were encouraged.
The donations will be used to sponsor buses for visits from under-resourced schools and other museum projects.
The museum will offer the following talkabouts over the next few months:

16 February: Gill Butler will highlight a selection of special works including Jackson Hlungwane’s Altarpiece.
23 February: Prof. Katherine Munro will present An African perspective on cartography.
