This weekend at the Bioscope
MABONENG PRECINCT - If you ever wondered who killed Laura Palmer, or are a fan of old Oscar classics, Joburg's favourite independent cinema is the place to be this weekend.
The Bioscope will feature a double bill on Saturday evening, and an Oscar classic on Sunday evening.
Saturday’s double bill will begin at 7pm with The Oregonian, a story about a woman from Oregon who gets lost on the road while running away from her past.
She meets truckers with problems and old women with strange powers, and experiences the grotesque of the American northwest —whether she likes it or not.
Film lovers can relieve all the early 90s Twin Peaks angst with a 9pm screening of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me.
The film was made as a prequel to the smash hit David Lynch TV series, and revolves around the disappearance of a young FBI agent, who was investigating a murder miles from Twin Peaks.
The murder being investigated could be related to the future murder of Palmer, the last week of whose life is chronicled in the film.
Take a trip back in time with Sunday’s 7pm screening of My Fair Lady, which won the Academy Award for best film in 1964.
The 50-year-old classic film stars Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison, who plays a misogynistic, snobbish phonetics professor.
The professor agrees to a wager that he can take an ordinary flower girl and make her presentable in high society.
