Walking, talking about art at WAM
BRAAMFONTEIN - Enter into the minds and worlds of artists and their works with Wits Art Museum's (Wam) weekly talkabouts.
The museum offers illuminating talkabouts aimed at adults and families every weekend.
On 1 March at 12pm, adults can join an experienced art teacher for Drop In Drawing, a fun and informal drawing workshop in the exhibition Mapping/Marking. No previous experience is necessary, and drawing materials will be provided.
On 2 March at 11am, Prof. Katherine Munro will lead a Permanent Collections Illuminated talkabout. Munro will look at the history of map-making, with a focus on artworks from the Cullen Library and Wits Art Museum.
On 8 March at 12pm, curator and Wam post-doctoral fellow Laura de Becker will lead an adult talkabout of the exhibition Mapping/Marking.
On 9 March at 11am, Hazel Cuthbertson will lead a Permanent Collections Illuminated talkabout titled Memory Counts, which will take a deeper look at the museum’s lukasa (memory board), made by the Luba people of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
On 15 March at 12pm, Leigh Blanckenberg will lead a family talkabout of the exhibition Mapping/Marking. The talkabout will include various family activities.
On 16 March at 11am, Buyaphi Mdele will lead a Permanent Collections Illuminated talkabout. This will focus on how the museum selects and hosts art exhibitions.
On 22 March at 12pm, exhibition facilitator Thekwane Bongi Mpisholo and artist Gabrielle Le Roux will host an adult discussion on the exhibition Queer and Trans Art-iculations: Collaborative Art for Social Change.
On 23 March at 11am, Wam’s Tshegofatso Mabaso will host a Permanent Collections Illuminated talkabout. A selection of pieces on display will form the basis of the talkabout.
On 30 March at 11am, Wam’s Michael Brown will host a Permanent Collections Illiuminated talkabout on taking care of the museum’s collection, and African art and restoration.
