Get your freak on
JOBURG - A devilishly strange carnival is coming to town, and Joburg's party people and circus freaks have been invited.
While running away with Carnival Du Freak isn’t an option, partying the night away certainly is.
Organiser Hendrik Smit, of ToyBox, said the extravaganza will feature “carnivalistic drinks specials, ghoulish shot concoctions, fire-breathers, fire-eaters, gypsy belly dancers, a lot of circus freaks, the Mexican swamp monster, [and a] female ring leader with Toby the ToyBox bear”.
“Our events are always fun, quirky, and not the normal kind of parties you’d find in Joburg,” he said.
“We like to create crowd interaction with all our patrons, be it with free goodie bags handed out by a giant teddybear mascot or best-dressed competitions. We always have added extras that go with the theme.”
The night’s DJ line-up includes ToyBoy, The Beard, DJ Soosh and Lex Lafoy, Marcella, I am Noize, and Seanyboi.
“Dress up, dress down, don your lobster claws or horse masks. Join the freaks as they come out to play for a night to remember… Our performers won’t bite unless you ask them to,” said Smit.
ToyBox presents: Carnival Du Freak will take place on 5 April at KingKong, 6 Verwey Street, Troyeville, from 8pm.
