Xooxity festival postponed
Organisers of the XooXity festival have announced that the much-anticipated event has been postponed to after the elections.
While the upcoming XooXity festival looked set to rock with its launch in May, organisers of the event have announced that the festival has been postponed.
According to a statement released by Hilltop Live, the postponement is due to the challenges involved in launching the festival at the Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown.
“The organisers have committed to a massive security roll-out in this area through the dedicated “Gig Safe” programme, however some of the surrounding guarantees and support we were hoping to achieve simply did not materialise,” they said.
Furthermore, the organisers said that the event would be postponed until after the elections, giving them time to iron out any security and logistical issues. A new date for the launch is yet to be announced.
The festival, labelled by the organisers as “the first-ever multi-genre, electronically mashed-up festival in South Africa”, was set to be launched in May 2014 in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
It will consist, not just of multiple stages for music, but also art stage designs, visuals, installation art, film and other creative elements.
It will also include a fully-fledged technology component in the form of the already established Tech4Africa conference.
Carel Hoffmann, President for life of the Hilltop Live group said that XooXity, named after the book Zoo City and pronounced the same way, will probably be one of the most exciting creative things they have done in the last five years.
“Creativity, technology and music/art is fusing in many new formats which are really not highbrow at all any more. It is on the streets with us. Hopefully XooXity can become a platform for us and other artists and technologists to latch onto in the years to come…”
The line-up for the festival includes international artists such as DJ Fresh and Messy-C both from the United Kingdom. Representing South Africa will be the likes of Bittereinder and DJ Sibot.
