Commonwealth Pageants SA launched
JOBURG - The Commonwealth Pageants South Africa 2014/2015 competition was launched at the Fire and Ice Protea Hotel, Melrose Arch.
The pageant empowers women with the knowledge to bring about change to communities in need.
Anel de Swardt-Strydom, national director of the pageant said, “We are pleased to announce the official launch of the Commonwealth Pageants South Africa where we will introduce our sponsors, designers and celebrity judges. Our aim is to have a fair and transparent competition which will contribute to the development of the girls and women who enter the competition.”
The pageant is in search of contestants for the Miss Teen, Miss and Mrs 2014/2015 titles.
They invite all women to enter because they believe beauty is ageless. The winners will represent South Africa at the international pageant in London in November this year.
All 53 Commonwealth member states are invited to send their representatives to compete for the prestigious titles.
Last year, Miss Commonwealth SA 2013/2014, Maggy Pieterse walked away with the Miss Commonwealth International 2014 title and Mrs Commonwealth SA, Palesa Mtjale was placed as first runner-up for the Mrs Commonwealth International 2014 title.
“Through the Commonwealth Pageants, a platform is created for women of all ages to become charity and culture ambassadors within South Africa and the broader international community,” explained De Swardt-Strydom. “Our title holders become involved in charitable causes and uphold the aims and objectives of the Commonwealth. This includes racial harmony, poverty eradication and cultural cohesion.”
This year the pageant will support the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust, Ikageng Itireleng Aids Ministry and the breast cancer initiative Pink Drive.
