For the love of music

JOHANNESBURG – If dedication had a name it would be Ogolotse Phologo, otherwise known as Matthew Kidmore.

This aspiring radio producer, music composer and voice-over artist has worked tirelessly to make his dreams come true and there’s just no stopping him.

Phologo released his debut track, Makwapheni feat. Thembeka, three months ago and confessed that he’d had the song on the back burner for ages.

“It’s a tribal soul house music song that I produced in 2013 and never had a chance to release because I wasn’t happy about its composition at the time.”

He said he only released the track after meeting a young gospel singer through a friend. “I loved her voice and vocal delivery. I played her the beat and she started singing to it, and I gave her a concept to write about.”

Phologo stated that the song was inspired by the love of his life and his ‘side chick’ or makwapheni. He revealed that although he was committed to the woman who had gifted him with a beautiful baby girl, he was hooked on another woman.

“She started acting all funny and told me I had to choose between my baby mother and her, which I did not agree to because she knew from the very beginning about my relationship status and that I was taken. So the song is where I express my feelings about my baby mother and that the makwapheni will forever be a makwapheni.”

The track featured on the Daily Wrap Up show on Kofifi Fm’s Wacky Thursday show and has been getting ‘mad love’ on social media.

“I hope the masses are going to love it when it comes out on commercial and public radio before June this year,” he quipped.

He also hinted that he’s got a ton of music he plans to release throughout the year.

He added that if you’re looking to get into the industry, you’ll have to be prepared to work extremely hard. “You should never give in! There are people that are going to tell you that there are so many people doing what you want to do, so there is no point in doing it. Remember this is your life and you determine who you want to be.”
