David Krut exhibitions open on First Thursday
PARKWOOD – This First Thursday will feature the exhibition opening of Falling In by Lorenzo Nassimbeni and Inch x Inch, a group exhibition of small works, which will be hosted at the David Krut Bookstore in Parkwood.

Architect-cum-fine-artist, Lorenzo Nassimbeni, has a fascination with our country’s troubled narrative of social change in relation to the lack of architectural and geographically specific development.
The pieces that will be shown in the exhibition, Falling In, have been selected from the series he is currently working on. These works will tune into the sense of navigational politics attached to the area of Hillbrow – from an architect’s perspective. The pieces are an abstract interpretation of a journey that Nassimbeni took through the area on foot. He documented buildings which were erected in the late 20th century and appear today as a dilapidated shadow of their initial design.
Inch x Inch is an eclectic group exhibition of small abstract and figurative works in which different techniques are tested and the subject matter is captured within a limited scale of 30cmx30cm. It is one of the biggest group exhibitions that David Krut has undertaken and will showcase new works alongside select pieces from the David Krut Workshop archive.

Stephen Hobbs and Nassimbeni take a strong architectural and conceptual emphasis; while Sean Slemon and Rhett Martyn explore a loose and playful application of line. Robyn Penn deals with questions of colour while artist Maja Maljevic hones in on abstract and meticulous compositional concerns.
Figurative artists like Diane Victor and Penny Siopis will stand out with their dark narrative renderings. The exhibition will feature a number of interesting mediums from etchings to letterpress prints, paintings and photographs to linocuts, drawings, sculptures and mixed media.
Falling In and Inch x Inch will both open at the David Krut Bookstore, 142 Jan Smuts Avenue, Parkwood at 6pm on 3 March. Falling In will run from 3 March to 4 April and Inch x Inch will run from 3 March to 2 April.
