Lip Sync Battle hits Africa
JOBURG - The excitement levels at City Buzz are through the roof because Lip Sync Battle has officially made its way to Africa.
Lip Sync Battle, the cultural phenomenon that challenges the abilities of celebrities to lip sync to their favourite songs will be broadcast from Sasani Studios in Highlands North – the same studio where The Voice South Africa and Idols SA are recorded.
City Buzz was invited to be part of a group of people who would be the first to see the Lip Sync Battle Africa set – and it really was created in the splitting image of the American one.
CEO of Viacom Africa, the holding company of MTV, Alex Okosi let us in on why they’re bringing the intriguing show to Africa. “We want to be able to create content that really is relevant and localised to our consumers. That’s why we’re doing it,” he said.
The executive producer of Lip Sync Battle Africa, Dylan Khan explained how they intended to make the show uniquely African.
“What will be special for Africa will be our talent,” he said.
“The format will stay the same, but we’ll change certain elements to suit the way we do things. You can expect international songs on the show as well as African classics, and that will differentiate the African version to the American one.”
Finally, the moment that Africa was waiting for, the announcement of the proudly African hosts for the show was made and City Buzz is thrilled about their on-stage chemistry.
Pearl Thusi and D’Banj will be South Africa’s LL Cool J and Chrissy Tiegen respectively, and our hosts offer nothing less than an exciting show.
Unfortunately, people who are interested in watching the show live will not be able to purchase tickets, but don’t be disheartened because you could still stand the chance to be part of the live studio audience.
While producers will be using industry friends as audience members, they also want the public to compete for their seats in the audience by taking part in the #LSBChallenge (Lip Sync Battle).
Post your best lip syncing video on social media and you could stand the chance to be a part of the live action.
