A journey to stardom and a brand new album
JOBURG – The Caracara king shot to stardom just a few years ago and he's making hits once more.
We know him as part of the Cashtime Fam, but now he is making a name on his own and releasing a solo album.
One of the most prominent names in South African hip-hop is KiD X, one of the big industry players who brought us smash hits such as Caracara and Goodbye – and someone we won’t soon forget, especially as we await the release of his new solo album.
Born in Middleburg, KiD X was destined for great things – which he would later find out after creating a long-standing career in South African hip-hop.
For the better part of a decade, KiD X has created music that Africans truly identify with.
In 2010, he began his career in the music industry, working as an independent artist and remaining reluctant to join a record label – a trend that is seen with many artists who fear that the label may force them to change their sound.
In 2012, KiD X gained great recognition, shortly after joining the group Cashtime Fam, and creating the smash hit Goodbye.
Featuring on a number of hit songs including Kwesta’s BoomShakaLaka, the music-maker became one of the most sought-after musicians to collaborate with in the following years which led up to the dissolving and rebranding of the popular group which came to be known as Cashtime Life.
It was in 2014 that K.O. and KiD X released one of the biggest local songs of the decade, Caracara, leading to a string of successes.
In 2015, he crashed the Internet with more than 500 000 downloads of the mixtape 3 Quarter Piece in one week, and last year became the first person to be nominated for a South African Music Award for a mixtape.
Thanks and Laundry Day Fresh were two of his singles to be released last year after splitting from Cashtime Fam and forming RapLyf Records with Kwesta.
This year is indeed a new year and a new page for KiD X, who has officially released his latest offering, Mfazi Wephepha, and is set to drop a full album later in the year.
