A cut above the rest
JOBURG – Fashion and fierceness come together as Pearl Modiadie hosts the new local competition, Raw Silk.
Raw Silk is officially live on our television screens and it’s been met with much praise from local audiences.
Pearl Modiadie is a well-loved television personality who has been followed by the public since a teen. Having started her career more than 10 years ago, she has grown in front of her fans and has worn numerous hats as more than just a former kids’ presenter but a successful radio personality, a sound MC, actress, television producer and seasoned voice-over artist.
She has also been commended for a number of her high-profile gigs; hosting some of the most sought-after events including award shows.
It is certainly not by chance that she has grown to be the remarkable professional that she is, and with a decade of experience under her belt it is no wonder that she was chosen for this role as the host on Raw Silk – a new 13-part fashion competition.
Raw Silk is a fashion reality show with three judges – designer Ole Ledimo, fashion powerhouse Yasmin Furmie and make-up artist Nthato Mashishi.
The show sees 13 upcoming designers from across South Africa compete for the cash prize of R100 000, while making garments weekly and crossing their fingers to make it through the weekly eliminations – similar to that of the popular international television show, Project Runway.
“The show is fresh, something that South African TV audiences have been waiting for. They say it’s the possibility of a dream coming true that makes life interesting and this show represents that! We get to see local designers exposed to a national audience, with a platform and a voice, and I can’t wait for everyone to be part of dreams coming to life and to witness the drama that unfolds behind the scenes,” Modiadie said.
With an infectious laugh, a bubbly personality and commendable work ethic, Modiadie has proven that working hard relentlessly on your dreams pays off – and recently shooting for a new movie, we are soon to see lots more from the local favourite.
