JOBURG – Jozi girl, Ashlinn Gray, will be taking her music to the USA this year.
Ashlinn Gray is fast becoming a household name in South Africa and one to watch across the globe.
Having captured the attention of international talent scouts in the International Songwriting Competition and won fourth place for her song, Nineteen, the singer and songwriter is hoping to take her music across the globe.
Check out our Q&A with the talented young star.
City Buzz: What did it feel like to place in the top five of such a prestigious songwriting competition?
Ashlinn Gray: I felt honoured and surprised. I didn’t really think it had a chance until the final round.
CB: How did you celebrate the great achievement?
AG: With food. Obviously.
CB: What can we expect from you moving forward?
AG: I’ve been writing a lot and there is definitely some new music coming your way this year. I’m really excited to show everyone what I’ve been working on.
CB: We hear that you’re going to the USA, what will you be doing there?
AG: I’ll be working with a few people on some new material and also be doing a few shows over there.
CB: Where do you want to take your music and which parts of the world would you like it to reach?
AG: I feel like I’m finding my sound more, so it’s going into more of an alternative-pop genre. I’d love for it to reach the US and Europe. I feel like Norway would be pretty cool. I’ve always wanted to visit there and do a show.
CB: What’s your favourite song right now?
AG: Julia Michaels’ Uh Huh
