MonArk talks about their new album

JOBURG – MonArk pens a new album for the fans.

MonArk is one of South Africa’s leading music acts and they have just released their new album.

The self-titled album, MonArk, was released earlier this month with 10 tracks for fans to enjoy – but not just taking on topics such as money and girls (as many other musicians do) they have delved deeper to find meaningful lyrics for their catchy melodies.

Explaining the inspiration behind the new album at Universal Records in Rosebank, band member Eugene Coetzer said, “[It’s about] relationships, people – their strengths and weaknesses. Some of the most precious relationships in life disappoint you, so there are songs about that and songs in contrast.

“An exciting part of the process is the feeling of the experience and that’s where the songs come from, but also, the world offers you new and exciting ways to present your work. On The WKND’s new album we saw that people were ready to talk about the negatives and real things. That opened a cool door for us to talk about some serious matters that we wanted to discuss.”

The album took roughly one year and four months to complete, but the band said there was never really a definite end or beginning of the music writing process between albums.

While they are confident that they will soon start the music writing process on their next album, they’re excited about this one and say that they are closer to finding their sound.

Currently touring the album, MonArk, will perform shows in Johannesburg and Pretoria in June and July, with more shows to follow across the country.

What you didn’t know about the band is that each of the members have some very interesting professions including software development, producing music, magazine editing, and academia with the aspiration to become a professor.

The band urges all their fans to get in touch with them on social media and share their thoughts on their album.
