Games Mixer for developers to share ideas and concepts

PARKWOOD – The Games Mixer will host game developers from around the world to share ideas and concepts

The Goethe Institute, based in Parkwood, will host its third Games Mixer from 16 to 24 November in order to promote an exchange of ideas between game developers from around the world.

The Goethe Institute, which recently hosted game developers from around the world, hosted a games mixer in order for developers to share ideas and concepts.

The Games Mixer has previously been hosted in Indonesia and Brazil and brings together 30 international game designers to participate in a variety of activities including a game camp and a showcase. The game camp aims to encourage peer learning between the game designers.

Stefanie Kastner, the head of the library and information services for sub-Saharan Africa said, “The Games Mixer is an exchange programme between Germany and Indonesia and Brazil and South Africa and other African countries to participate.”

Sithé Ncube, from the Amaze Festival, said, “Games are much more than playful experiences. It’s about bringing the human element into games and making it much more about the interaction and culture and education and how we can make change through games.”

The GamesMixer aims to create engagement between developers from a range of countries and provides smaller, emerging studios an opportunity to learn from others.

Riad Djemili, co-founder of Maschinen-Mensch, has been working with the Goethe Institute to bring together game developers from around the world. Djemili has been involved with the two previous game mixers in Jakarta, Indonesia and Sao Paulo, Brazil and said they were an incredible experience.

“In Jakarta we got to visit studios, have discussions and showcase our games and it was an amazing experience to be able to get into that culture and scene with the people that are there.”

The Games Mixer will conclude with a public showcase on 22 November during which the public will be able to try out the games created during the mixer and interact with the developers of the games.
