The beloved monster was such a hit with Joburg audiences the first time round that the Peoples Theatre decided to bring him back for another season. When Shrek: The Musical Jr made its debut in 2015 it played to capacity houses.
“We could not fit in the number of people who requested tickets and we have had so many requests to bring Shrek back,” said theatre veterans Jill Girard and Keith Smith, who have been thrilling audiences, both young and old, for years.
The jolly green giant will spend the next two months, from 30 October to 24 December, at the Braamfontein theatre precinct, ensuring a very festive and jolly season for Joburgers.
“The production is different from the initial one. It has a new dynamic, a new cast, new backdrops, and technology, but the essence and sincerity of Shrek will be the same,” said Smith.
“Every show goes to a new generation of children as children grow older. Shrek is a production that appeals to all generations and that is why we have chosen it for the festive season.”
Girard said fans can expect, “a fantastic show filled with fun, emotion, life lessons, great music, an incredible new set, technology, wonderful sound and a dynamic talented professional cast”.
