Redbull Music Festival set to raise the bar for the music festival calendar

JOBURG – The Red Bull Music Festival which will take place on various stages in Jozi, will feature some of the country's biggest names in the music industry.

 

The Red Bull Music Festival (RBMF) promises to bring people together to have an exhilarating musical experience which is set to raise the bar for this year’s music festival calendar from 3 to 8 April.

Heavyweights like Trompies, DJ Oskido, 340 Million, Moozlie and Distruction Boyz of Omunye fame are said to be some of the festival headliners.

The flagship RBMF event, which follows the hugely successful Red Bull Music Academy Weekender and Red Bull Culture Clash events in the past two years, will boast an unforeseen line-up of 80 local, pan-African and global acts across the multi-venue event.

The festival will feature a variety of musical genres, which play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s musical landscape.

Apart from the rich music history of our country, art, fashion and events that have aroused the evolution of South African urban music culture over the past two decades will also be featured.

Pioneers and unsung heroes who continue to inspire new artists like Moonchild, Sannelly and Stiff Pap will also have a light shone on them.

Jazz music will be on the spotlight on 4 March as a jam session will create a once-off experience for attendees at The Orbit in Braamfontein, with DJ Okapi and Zara Julius closing off the night with a round robin vinyl session.

On 5 March, the Newtown Music Factory (formally known as Bassline) will host a reggae show with Maad Mugo, Jahseed and Admiral.

For Kwaito lovers, Republic of 94 in the city centre promises a night of old-school hits from the likes of DJs Oskido and Tira.

AND, Great Dane and Kitcheners are set to host big names like Tha Cutt, Sean Munnick, ANG, Audioboyz, The Hacker and Grant VR.

The RBMF will also serve as a celebration for the 20th anniversary of the world-travelling Red Bull Music Academy.
