Hip-Hop artist Huey, also known as Big Boy, releases hit single

JOBURG – Huey breaks into the hip-hop game with a Big Boy hit anthem.

“Who you know like Big Boy?!”

This is the lyric being chanted whenever new hip-hop artist Huey is seen in and around the city. Thanks to a successful debut song release, this artist is on his way to join the other big boys and girls in the music industry.

“Music is something I’ve always known I wanted to be involved in from a very young age. I realised my potential when I started experimenting with it all.”

Huey believes that music chose him, not the other way around.

“No matter which path I decided to take in my life, whether it was studying law or opening up a visual marketing company when I was 22, music always seemed to find its way back to me. It’s haunted me my entire life. I don’t think it would let me do anything else.”

Huey said he is mostly inspired by industry heavyweights such as Drake, AKA and Chance The Rapper. His debut hit single, Big Boy, draws some parallels to these artists whether it is through cadence, flows or delivery.

“The music I make is based entirely on how I happen to be feeling at a specific time so, one day I could be rapping on some hard rap beats, and the other I could be singing smooth melodies on an afrobeat type of beat.

Produced by Luni Skipz, the song is a minimalist 808 beat, yet, eerily melodic from the duo. With effortless lyricism and a catchy hook for fans to sing along to, this is why it’s been such an anthem for the fans. Huey said the song is about him starting to find himself as an artist and how he sees himself in the industry.

“It’s a song that came from me starting to believe that I was really chosen for this and that there’s no one who did it like me before me, and there’ll be no one after. Hence the question: Who you know like Big Boy?”

The song was widely well received when it was released and it continues to enjoy some success even now.

“Honestly, the reception has blown me away. My fans have really gotten behind the song and shown me so much love. I always knew the song was special, but I didn’t know just how special it would be for me.”
