Local singer-songwriter Kykyle releases two new singles
GREENSIDE – Mykyle looks forward to dropping new singles each month this year to flood the market.
16-year-old rapper, singer, songwriter and producer Mykyle is making waves in the music industry following the release of two new singles this month dubbed the Infinity Drop.
Greenside resident Mykyle began writing and producing songs at age nine and started pursuing a career in the industry after American singer-songwriter CeeLo Green took an interest in his work.
“I was on a flight with my mom and noticed that CeeLo Green was on the same flight. I snuck into first class and met him. It was inspiring to meet him and show him my songs. He gave me a lot of encouragement by telling me that I’m going to make it and he built my confidence,” said Mykyle.
His latest two singles Cut Deep and Zone speak to his R&B and hip-hop sides respectively.
“Cut Deep was written when I was in a dark mindset. My parents were splitting up and I also speak about girls. I use my own experiences and let listeners into my feely side. There’s nothing like it locally and it is an acoustic ballad that everyone can relate to.”
Zone is a freestyle song that Mykyle believes outclasses many songs in the hip-hop genre.
He claims that his music doesn’t replicate other sounds but rather creates a sound that cannot be compared to others in the local industry.
One of the highlights of his career so far has been sharing the stage with South African recording artist and record producer Cassper Nyovest in June last year. “I was the opening act at his performance and it was one of the first times that I had crowd control, which was amazing.”
Another highlight was when South African TV personality Bonang Matheba praised his performance in East London.
Mykyle said it’s tough to make it in the local music industry, especially without family with an inside lane. “I have been able to build something child-friendly through publicity on TV and radio shows. My goal is to drop songs every month this year in order to flood the market.”
