Schools registering to sleep out for charity

BRAAMFONTEIN – Schools answer the call for the Schools SleepOut challenge.

Eleven schools will take part in next month’s School SleepOut, which encourages pupils at various schools across South Africa to help the needy.

The eleven schools announced were Alpha Primary School, Pridwin Preparatory School, St Peter’s School, Alpha And Omega Christian School and Beaulieu College, and more, and all of them are set to host their own SleepOut on their school grounds on the night of 28 July, the same night of the Sun International CEO SleepOut.

Graeme Stephens, chief executive officer of Sun International, explained that the initiative needed to extend beyond just involving business leaders and should include future leaders. “We need to make it broader and include senior corporates and future leaders of the country, through the other Sleepouts taking place,” Stephens said.

Others schools are also challenged to take part in the worthy event and spend the night outdoors on their school grounds in solidarity with the CEO SleepOut challenge taking place in Braamfontein on the Nelson Mandela Bridge.

Those interested in taking part in the School SleepOut can visit the website to register and will also need to identify an outreach school in need, learn about the items their beneficiary needs most and commit to gathering and delivering those items in order to make a difference to those in need.

The CEO SleepOut, now in its second year, will see business leaders spend the night outside, along with a colleague, a student and a matric pupil with notable leadership qualities, all in aid of education.
